Favre hails superb Reus

Published on: 22 December 2018

Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre has praised Marco Reus for his excellent form in the first half of the Bundesliga campaign.

The 29-year-old scored the winning goal on Friday as Dortmund edged to a 2-1 victory against Borussia Monchengladbach as he brought his tally for the season up to 11.

Favre is looking forward to the mid-season break, saying after the match: "It was a deserved victory. We had more possession and chances to score and 2-1 is okay, three points.

"Marco Reus has played a great first round. He has always been there, has played almost all games, but not in Monaco in the Champions League.

"We are pleased to have a break now."

It was an important three points for Dortmund whose unbeaten start to the campaign had been brought to an end by Fortuna Dusseldorf in their previous encounter.

"In the beginning, it was really difficult. It was important for us to be patient and keep the gaps narrow," Reus said.

"Julian Weigl and Omer Toprak were outstanding. I'm proud of the team. We gave everything, especially in the second half. It was an act of will. We analysed the game against Dusseldorf. Such a performance must not happen to us, but we are only human."

Borussia Dortmund are 8/11 to win the 2018/19 Bundesliga title while Bayern Munich can be backed at 11/10.
