FC Persepolis coach Manuel Jose is reported to have rejected signing ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah, according to the Tehran Times.

The publication on Monday claimed the ex-Fenerbahce star was denied a deal due to health reasons, but the club are yet to confirm.

Appiah reached an agreement with the club officials last week and trained with them.

The 31-year-old has been without a club since ending a four-month loan stint with Serbian side FK Vojvodina in July.

Appiah has featured for Udinese, Parma, Juventus, Cesena and Bologna.

He quit international football after the 2010 FIFA World Cup final where he played a bit-part role.
