Felix Kwakye Ofosu bemoans poor state of Ghana sports

Ghana's sporting sector is facing a crisis, according to Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

He emphasised the urgent need for reforms, citing the recent failure of the Black Stars to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The Black Stars' poor performance in the qualifiers, finishing last in their group, marks the first time since 2004 that the team will miss the tournament. This decline in Ghana's football fortunes is a significant concern.

Kwakye Ofosu also referenced the tragic incident at a league match, where a football fan lost their life, leading to the temporary suspension of the Ghana Premier League. He described Ghana's sporting sector as being "in complete disarray".

Despite these challenges, Kwakye Ofosu expressed optimism in Kofi Adams' ability to address the issues ahead. Adams, who is set to be sworn in as the new Sports Minister, has a proven track record of resolving difficult issues, such as infrastructure development and restructuring the league.

Kwakye Ofosu noted that Adams' leadership will be crucial in reviving the national team's performance, as well as addressing other pressing issues in Ghana's sporting sector. With the right reforms and leadership, Kwakye Ofosu believes that Ghana's sporting sector can be restored to its former glory.
