Fernandez: Griezmann is rightly sent off, he hits Firmino's face with his studs

Antoine Griezmann's sending off in the 52nd minute of Atletico Madrid's 3-2 defeat at home to Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday night changed the match, as at the time it was 2-2, but it widely regarded as being the correct decision.

The 30-year-old was shown a straight red card after making contact with the face of Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino as he tried to control the ball in the air with his foot.

"Griezmann is rightly sent off, he hits Firmino in the face with his studs," said Pavel Fernandez, Radio MARCA's refereeing analyst.

"It is a reckless action and he was rightly sent off by the referee."

Prior to his sending off, Griezmann had scored Atletico's two goals to bring the game level.
