Feyenoord star Manu could change his mind towards Ghana future

Though Feyenoord hero Elvis Manu has stated openly about his willingness to switch his nationality to play for Ghana but a continuous disinterest from the West Africans could force him to abandon his dreams and stick with the Netherlands.

The 21-year-old was handed a late call-up to join the Dutch's Jong Oranje side as replacement for Williem II forward Ondaan and he came off the bench to play in their win over Slovakia's U21 side on Monday night.

Manu was quite aware that accepting to feature in that game for the Netherlands could not totally block his chances of playing for Ghana but blindly it could be stealing his heart and focus on Ghana.

From past records, Ghana Football Association officials will wait for the player to officially notify FIFA of his decision to switch nationality before they take a step to facilitate the process -  which in most times takes up to seven months to complete.

While GFA officials would be waiting for Manu to take the lead, the Dutch national team handlers are watching him and drawing plans towards a possible future cap.

The merits of his call-up on Saturday night from the Dutch U21 comes on the back of an outstanding early season form for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie and the Uefa Europa League.

The call-up was a also a progression in his international career as he was rewarded with a promotion from the Dutch U19 side.

He could be the third Dutch-born Ghanaian to apply for nationality switch after Quincy Owusu-Abeyie and Jeffrey Sarpong.
