Fiorentina 2-1 Inter: Late Babacar winner adds to Nerazzurri woes

Fiorentina beat Inter 2-1 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday night in Serie A.

In an entertaining first-half, which La Viola dominated, it was Roberto Mancini’s side who took the lead through Marcelo Brozovic in the 26th minute.

Yet, 15 minutes into the second-half, Borja Valero equalised for Fiorentina and stoppage time Khouma Babacar scored a scrappy winner.

The Gigliati begun the match on top and they created the first chance though Federico Bernardeschi. The young Italian drove at the Nerazzurri defence before releasing a ferocious shot, however Samir Handanovic stood firm.

La Viola were playing some electric football and were brilliantly denied the opener by Alex Telles.

Josip Ilicic drove at the Inter defence before slipping in Bernardeschi, who sublimely pulled the ball back to Ilicic, but his effort was cleared off the line by Telles.

Yet, against the run of the play, Il Biscione silenced the Artemio Franchi.

Geoffrey Kondogbia produced a fine through ball to play Rodrigo Palacio into the penalty area. The Argentine then lifted the ball to back post where an unmarked Brozovic lurked and he fired the ball into the roof off the net.

After the interval Fiorentina continued to dominate, and they equalised in the 60th minute.

Ilicic whipped in a cross, which was taken onto the head of Valero by Miranda’s failed clearance, before Valero directed the ball beyond Handanovic.

In the 81st minute Telles was shown a red card for a second yellow card offence after he stupidly fouled Bernardeschi.

In stoppage time Babacar gave the Gigliati the three point after he turned in Mauro Zarate’s parried shot.

Right at the death Zarate was sent-off for pinching the neck of Murillo.

The result leaves Fiorentina four points ahead of Inter fourth place, whilst the Nerazzurri remain fifth in the table.
