Fiorentina step up interest in Chievo winger

Fiorentina have stepped up their interest in Chievo winger Simone Pepe.

The 32-year-old has found starting opportunities at a premium under coach Rolando Maran in Verona, with La Viola reportedly keen on the veteran’s services as they mount an assault on both the Scudetto and Europa League in 2016.

QS Sport report that Gigliati coach Paulo Sousa is said to be keen on luring Pepe to Florence while Jakub Blaszczykowski, who arrived from Borussia Dortmund on a temporary deal in the summer, continues his recovery from injury.

However Pepe, who has registered a paltry two starts in Chievo colours since his eagerly anticipated arrival in the summer, may be reluctant to become the newest addition to Sousa’s burgeoning squad given his Juventus connections.

Fiorentina currently occupy second place in the Serie A standings, with a trip to Palermo looming once domestic matters resume after the winter break.
