Five Europe-based players hand massive boost to Ghana U23

Ghana have been massively boosted by the confirmation that five of their foreign-based U23 players will be available for Saturday’s crucial away second-leg Olympics qualifier against Sudan.

The Black Stars, who are touted as favourites for the tournament to be held in London next year, are facing an uphill task to qualify for the Olympics.

The U20 World Champions were expected to translate that form to the qualifiers but without their foreign-based players they were beaten 1-0 by Sudan in Accra.

As the return leg is not being played on Fifa approved date for international matches, some European clubs are reluctant to release many of the 14 foreign-based players invited.

Spain-based duo of Ransford Osei and Jonathan Mensah, Ukraine-based Daniel Addo and David Addy of Portuguese side Academica and Samuel Affum who play in Egypt, have all confirmed their participation for the return leg.

Black Meteors coach David Duncan can also count on the availability of striker Saddick Adams and Finland-based Quincy Osei who have both been training with the squad in Accra.

Meanwhile, Ghana U23 management committee chairman Randy Abbey is negotiating for the release of the remaining players for the game in Sudan.

The players are Andre Ayew (Olympique Marseille), Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu (Udinese), Rabiu Mohammed (Evian Thonon Gaillard) Dominic Adiyiah (Partizan Belgrade), Samuel Inkoom (Dnipro Dnipropetrosvk), Daniel Opare (Standard Liege) and Opoku Agyemang (Al Ahli, Qatar).
