Five players likely to win the best player award in the Ghana Premier League

The delay in the start of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League has raise a lot of eyebrows as many teams, administrators and players have been complaining.

However, it appears set that the 20th February date set for the kickoff of the league has really breathe a sigh of relief as many are poised for the real action of growing Premier League.

GHANAsoccernet.com takes a look at five players, one of whom, is likely to emerge the Most Valuable Player [MVP] of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League.

Ahmed Adams [Asante Kotoko]

Touted as one of the most intelligent defenders in the Ghana Premier League, the Asante Kotoko center-back stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the winner of the accolade last season, Eric Opoku.

Joining Kumasi Asante Kotoko last season, Ahmed Adams played his first game for the Porcupine Warriors when the league was seven matches old. He emerged the Player of the Month of June for the club and went ahead to play all the remaining 23 matches.

Adams’ exploits in the league last season won him the Fans Player of the Year Award organized by Global Media Alliance and a runner up in the Premier League Board’s Most Valuable Player of the Year Award. The instrumental center-back stands a chance of emerging the MVP of the season if his 2015 exploits are repeated.

Born on the 4th of August 1994, 22-year old Noah Martey snubbed lucrative offers from abroad to sign for Premier League hopefuls Aduana Stars. Arguably the Most Valuable Player of Bechem United last season, Noah Martey bagged in ten goals as an offensive midfielder and has been described as one of the fastest growing players on the local scene. Noah’s ingenuity and craftiness in midfield has makes him a sure bet for the accolade if his performance last season can be replicated.

Latif Atta Blessing [Liberty Professionals]

Many might describe this intelligent youngster as a player who has grown to learn how to use the media to push his exploits while other believe that he is a talkative, but Latif Blessing’s skillful attributes as well as his swiftness on the flanks makes him confident for the season.

The 22-year old was a runner up to Abdiul Lateef Anabila of New Edubiase United for the Most Promising Player last season. Perhaps, his promising status will be manifested this season when the league finally kicks off on Saturday.

Latif scored a goal for Liberty Professionals last season as a winger and made 15 assists in the Premier League. Despite that, he was described by pundits of the game as a real gem with his intelligent dribbling displays last season and the entire Liberty set up will be resting on his shoulders with absence of former captain Kennedy Ashia. Latif has made it clear that he will rise to the occasion to win the MVP of the season and GHANAsoccernet.com believes that he will be one of the spotlights.

Eric Donkor [Asante Kotoko]

Emerging as the player with the top assist in the Ghana Premier League last season, Asante Kotoko versatile left back Eric Donkor appears ready for the topmost award ion the2015/16 Ghana Premier League.

Used in three different positions last season by Coach David Duncan, Donkor is a technical player who has mastered set pieces to push the title ambitions of the Porcupine Warriors.

Donkor scored three goals last season for the Porcupine Warriors and is highly remembered for his tie-breaker against Sekondi Hasaacas last season.

During the pre-season preparation of the Reds, Eric Donkor has been the main talisman in terms of set pieces, scoring three goals and making five assists in the side’s six pre-season matches.

Donkor is currently labeled as the best left back in the Ghana Premier League who has the quality of joining attack at will.

His free kick earned the side their first pre-season trophy in the SWAG Cup final with league champions AshantiGold SC.

Continuity of such a performance is a sure point of attraction for the top award at the end of the season.

Zakaria Mumuni [Aduana Stars]

The former WAFA midfielder took the league by storm when the metamorphosed Feyenoord Academy side returned into the Ghana Premier League last season.

Just 19-years of age, the Aduana Stars midfielder appears to have made an indelible mark with his mark on the local football scene with his intelligent and Zidane-like performance.

Zakaria joined the Dormaa-based side and is expected to champion the title winning ambitions of the Ogya Boys.

Should Zakraia emerge the Most Valuable Player at the end of the season, it will not come as a surprise.
