Florenzi: Conte’s exit won’t distract Italy

Published on: 22 March 2016

Alessandro Florenzi has insisted that coach Antonio Conte’s departure won’t affect Italy’s will to perform decently during Euro 2016 this summer.

The Chelsea-bound boss has recently announced his intention to quit his job after the competition, despite dismissing rumours he has already signed a three-year contract with the West-London outfit, but the Roma midfielder is adamant the Azzurri are eager to prove themselves.

“Conte’s departure won’t change our relationship,” the 25-year-old said to reporters ahead of the friendly against Spain.

“We’re all focused on the same goal, doing well in the European Championship.

“Our coach is excited, we want to show our quality and give this adventure a proper end.

“I hope to repay his [Conte] trust when he will rely on me. Our group is really close, some of us have been playing together for many years.

“Conte loves being on the pitch and needs to see his players every day.”

Florenzi has had his debut with the Azzurri in November 2012 under Cesare Prandelli, and has since collected 13 appearances scoring twice.
