Amman: More than 70 representatives from the Jordan professional league, the Jordan Football Association (JFA) as well as practitioners from the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Jordan 2016 gathered on Wednesday at the Football Emergency Medicine Course and Anti‐Doping Workshop in Amman, Jordan.

Jointly organised by Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and JFA, the two-day workshop was organised to enhance the capabilities of on-field emergency medical practice in Asia and familiarise participants with the FIFA competitions guidelines and regulations and medical operation plans.

AFC Medical Committee Chairman Dato’ Dr.Gurcharan Singh, one of the workshop panellists, said: “The world of football is constantly evolving and today the game is played with immense speed and intensity. The medical care and needs of players are becoming far more complex than before.

“Strengthening the capabilities of our sport medical personnel is very important for the AFC. We want to ensure that we are at the forefront of best practices. Education, undoubtedly, is the key in enhancing and expanding the pool of qualified medical personnel.

“The aim of the workshop was to help medical professionals and sports officials protect and care for the medical needs of players and uphold the integrity of our beautiful game.

The workshop provided participants with in-depth information about the complexities of medical and competition operations and, at the same time, offered specialised training in football-specific medicine parameters and protocols.

Dr. Y. Maharmeh from JFA said: “I am very pleased and thankful to the AFC, FIFA and Jordan FA for organising this workshop as it provided an excellent opportunity to keep abreast with the latest medical applications in football.”

“At the same time, it was a great opportunity to establish good working rapport with fellow medical/health practitioners, many of whom will be working alongside me during the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup here in Jordan this September.”

Day two of the workshop covered areas such as anti‐doping and the basic principles of stadium medical services provision and concluded with a practical training session to equip participants with the expertise to deal with on-pitch emergencies, including the management of concussions and spinal injuries.
