Newly appointed Black Meteors head coach, Kasim Ocansey Mingle, has made it clear that foreign players will have to compete for a spot in his team.
Mingle, who also coaches Ghana Premier League side Nations FC, emphasised his intention to prioritise local players in building a formidable team.
"I will start with local players as head coach of the Ghana U23 team. It will be prudent to build a strong local team. The foreign players would have to come and compete for places in the team," Mingle stated.
Mingle's approach is centered on harnessing the talent within the local league, providing a platform for players to showcase their abilities on the international stage.
While he is open to including a select few foreign-based talents, he stressed that it will not be a "wholesale" inclusion of foreign players.
"I will focus more on local players, but then, if I get one or two foreign players who are good, I will include them," Mingle added.
This approach reflects a commitment to nurturing homegrown footballers, aligning with Ghana's long-standing focus on local talent development.
