Former Belgium U-16 player Anıl Koç has advised Anderlecht winger Jeremy Doku to leave the club when offers flood in, or leave to regret not taking his chance.
Anıl Koç, a former player of Anderlercht, nearly joined Liverpool at a tender age but the promise of regular play time at Standard Liege forced him to stay in Belgium, a decision he regrets.
The 25-year old now plays for Turkish side Kasimpasa after struggling at Standar Liege following the arrival of a new coach.
"I played for ten years for Anderlecht," Koç told Turkish Portal Hurriyet. "When I was sixteen I was wanted by teams like PSG, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund. Together with my family I chose Liverpool, where I would join the U19 to progress to the main squad. There was even a five-year contract ready, so everything was fine."
"When I returned to Belgium to pick up my stuff, Standard suddenly hung on the line. They immediately promised me a spot with the first team and a great project, on almost the same conditions. That's why we chose Liège, but after a I got off to a good start and I started having problems.
"The new coach didn't need me and sent me on several lending turns (to former sister clubs Charlton and STVV, ndvr.) Sometimes I regret not choosing Liverpool ", the winger concludes.
Doku has been on the radar of several clubs including Liverpool, who came close to signing him in 2016.
