Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has stated that he would love Manchester United star Wayne Rooney to join him in the Chinese Super League. The Sun had made a stunning revelation on Tuesday by suggesting that United captain Rooney will be courted by a host of CSL clubs who are prepared to offer the striker a lucrative contract.

Current Shanghai SIPG manager Eriksson has had his say regarding the speculation linking Rooney to China and has stated that it would be great for Chinese football if his the England skipper were to arrive in the Asian nation.

Speaking to Sun Sport, Eriksson said: "Football is becoming huge here and they have very big ambitions for the Chinese Super League.

"We already have famous players, like Robinho, Asamoah Gyan and Demba Ba, and they have brought something special.

"But of course Rooney is at another level. He is top, top, top — in the same category as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Everybody in China knows the superstar players like him. Rooney would take this league to another level, I have no doubt about that."
