Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah believes a successful tenure as Black Stars captain will see him excel as head coach of the national team when given the opportunity.

Stephen Appiah after his retirement has been studying for his coaching badges and had the opportunity to serve as the Technical Coordinator for the national team under ex-coach Kwasi Appiah.

The former Juventus star dreams of managing the Black Stars as his unique way of captaining the team for eight years will make him a good coach.

“In being a manager or a football coach, the most important thing is how to handle the players,” he told with Carol Tshabalala of SuperSport.

“You can’t show the players how to play the game. The only thing you can show them is the system that you want to play or the way you want them to move on the pitch.”

He added: “The most important thing is that you have 23 adults that have different egos, and you have to manage them.

“I think I have the ability, being the captain for 8 years, and not having trouble with any player.”

The former Juventus player has been regarded as one of the best  Black Stars captains in the country's history after guiding the team to its first FIFA World Cup in 2006 held in Germany.
