Former Ghana international Charles Takyi has been named the new U-19 coach of German club Schalke O4.

The 34-year old replaces Morten Möllers and will deputize experienced coach Norbert Elgert.

Takyi call it time on his playing career in 2018 after featuring for German lower tier side KFC Uerdingen before switching his attention to coaching.

He has been understudying coach Norbert Elgert for sometime before earning his move as assistant manager of the youth team.

"Morten Möllers has done a great job here for years, but we also trust Charles 100%. He has been with us for a few months. Therefore, getting started is easier for him than if he had come to us fresh, "says Norbert Elgert.

Charles Takyi began his footballing career with the Royal Blues as a youth team player in 2003 to 2004 before moving on to play Hamburg 11 and the senior side too.

In 2013 he left Germany to play in Denmark for AC Horsens after spells with Gruether Furth and St. Pauli.

He also played for Dibba Alfujairi in the United Arab Emirates before returning to Germany to conclude a footballing career that was ravaged by injuries.
