Former Ghana star Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu made his debut for Great Olympics on Wednesday.

Agyemang-Badu, who signed a one-year contract last week, played in the GHALCA G6 defeat to Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The 31-year-old wore his favourite number 8 shirt and gave a positive account of himself, but he ended up on the losing side.

Great Olympics were beaten 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time. He left Chinese side Qingdao in January 2022, and it took him more than six months to find another club.

Agyemang-Badu has a wealth of experience, having played at the highest levels of the game.

He played in the Italian Serie A for Udinese for eight years. Agyemang-Badu has also played for Hellas Verona and Turkey's Bursaspor, Asante Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea.

Agyemang-Badu announced his retirement from international football in 2020. He won 78 caps for Ghana after making his senior debut in 2008.

He became a mainstay in the Black Stars, after excelling at the 2009 FIFA U20 World Cup in Egypt. Agyemang-Badu scored the winning penalty as Ghana beat Brazil to become the first African country to win the youth competition.

He was a squad member at two World Cups and five Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments, earning two silver medals.
