Former captain of the Nigerian national football team, Sunday Oliseh is set to replace Austin Eguaveon as coach of the Super Eagles following their failure to qualify for the World Cup.
The 47-year-old is reported to be Sports Minister, Sunday Dare's preferred candidate as the Super Eagles look to bounce back from the recent disappointment.
The Nigerian Football Federation will be meeting the Sports Minister to discuss what led to the country's failure to qualify for the World Cup as well as the appointment of a new coach.
Augustine Eguaveon and his entire backroom staff were dismissed after Ghana urged the Super Eagles to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.
Meanwhile, Sunday Oliseh has previously stated he will never coach the team following the poor treatment he was given during his first stint as coach of the Super Eagles.
"I will never coach the Super Eagles again," he said in April 2020.
However, last year he rescinded that decision and he is looking forward for another opportunity with the three times champions.
“My country is my country, nobody can take it from me. I am first Nigerian before anything else, if my country needs me to help out and they ask me to come and do it, I will do it.”
Oliseh recorded 2 losses in 14 games during his first stint and the team also recording 19 goals, conceding only 6.
