Former Spain midfielder Xavi urges Barcelona to sign Ivorian star Seri

FC Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez has urged the Catalan club to sign an African player, who has made headlines in Ligue 1.

Since Brazil international Neymar left the club for Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona have €222 million to spend and are working hard in search of possible arrivals.

Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri, who was born in Ivory Coast and represented his country 13 times, has been one of the names in mention, and ex-Barca captain Xavi admits the player has great quality and would fit in well at the Spanish giants.

"When I was told that a player from Nice was called the 'African Xavi', I followed him very closely," Xavi told Le Parisien.

"I didn't know (Seri) and I was entranced."

"I'm not used to seeing such talent in midfield any more. The short game, long game, tactical intelligence, long-range shooting, personality, organisation of the play... Madre mia!

"He would do so well at Barca. He can play anywhere in the middle. He is fantastic. He has what they call the Barca DNA. No doubt."

The 26-year-old midfielder has played 83 games for Nice, scoring 10 goals and assisting a further 17 strikes.
