Strasbourg defender Alexander Djiku has been handed a maiden call-up to Ghana’s senior national team, Black Stars.

The defender is part of five debutants invited by coach Charles Akonnor for next month’s friendly against Mali.

Born in France to Ghanaian parents, the 26-year-old had an option to play for the European country.

But he has decided to pledge his international future to the West African country.

Akonnor expressed interest in him and has succeeded in convincing him to wear the jersey of the Black Stars.

Black Stars friendly against Mali will be played on October 10 in Turkey.

The match forms part of the team's preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan in November.
