French-born Ghanaian defender Dennis Appiah could not find words to describe his new-found form for Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht

Appiah was reinstated in the first team of the Purple and White lads last month against high-flying Club Brugge last month following a turbulent start to the campaign.

The 26-year-old was heavily tipped the head to depart the club during the January transfer window after he was relegated to the club's second team.

However, the appointment of Dutch coach Fred Rutten seemed to have worked in favour of the former SM Caen defender after he was reinstated into the starting line-up following an injury to Andy Najar.

"I didn't expect that. It wasn't easy, but I felt the confidence of the staff and especially the players. They didn't let me down. Despite everything that happened, I never spoke badly about the club, the players or the fans. I kept silent and kept working,” he says in La Capitale.

“Coach Fred Rutten did not seem to see much in Appiah at first. When a new coach arrives, everyone starts from now on. I wanted to show me on internship and show that he could count on me. But after the internship I understood that he didn't want me. Then there came proposals, but none that better was then Anderlecht.”

Alexis Saelemaekers after the Belgian teenager's underwhelming performance in the match.

Appiah and Alexis Saelemaekers are the side’s only two fit right-backs following injury to Najar.

However, reports suggest that youngster Emmanuel Adjei Sowah has been cleared to start training after three months on the sidelines.

"My place is not guaranteed for the next ten games. Andy Najar is coming back and Alexis is still there. If I play well I will have a better chance, but if I play badly everything can change."

Appiah signed a five-year deal with the Constant Vanden Stock outfit in 2016.

He has made 12 appearances in all competitions for the club in the ongoing season.
