Fred Pappoe rules himself out of Ghana FA presidential race

Fred Pappoe has ruled himself out of the race to become the next Ghana FA boss and has given a ringing endorsement to Kwesi Nyantakyi to retain the seat.

The Ghana FA vice -president was thought to be nurturing the thought of fighting Nyantakyi at elections later this year.

A group was suspected to be garnering support for Pappoe to offer a credible challenge to unseat Nyantakyi, who recently won Caf Executive Committee elections.

But Pappoe has rejected those claims insisting Nyantakyi is the man to drive Ghana football forward.

“I want to state categorically state that I will not contest the Ghana FA presidential elections,” Pappoe told Asempa FM.

“I will be a traitor if I apply to contest Nyantakyi given the successes Ghana football chalked under his reign.

“If I contest the position it also means that there are major flaws in the GFA which I have been a key part of therefore I am also to blame.

“I don’t think there are major flaws and as such I am throwing my weight behind Nyantakyi for the elections and I know he will win hands down.”

Neil Armstrong and Vincent Sowah have declared their intentions to fight Nyantakyi for the position.

No date has set for the elections but it will be held before the end of the year.
