Ghanaian right-back Enoch Kwateng was handed a starting berth for Nantes FC in their 3-1 loss against AS Monaco in the French Ligue 1 opener on Saturday.

The 21-year-old, who had endured a difficult season under Claudio Ranieri last term, was handed a starting role in their league opening fixture against AS Monaco at the Stade de la Beaujoire.

Despite showing grit against the former champions in front of their teeming fans, Miguel Cardoso's side were hammered by the spirited Riviera-base side.

Late goals from Rony Lopes, Stefan Jovetic and Rademel Falcao put AS Monaco in the driving seat before Emiliano Sala pulled a goal back for the hosts in the 90th minute.

Kwarteng lasted the entire duration of the match while compatriot Majeed Waris, who joined the side last week, playing the final 18 minutes.
