French Ligue 1 club Stade Rennes have made a €7 million bid for Ghana defender Nicholas Opoku, GHANASoccernet.com can report.

Opoku left Italian outfit Udinese to join Amiens SC on loan with the option to purchase.

The Unicorns were obliged to purchase the Ghana centre-back only when they escape relegation.

However, the club’s purchase option became null and void following their demotion to Ligue 2 after the Championship was cancelled amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Reports indicate that Rennes have quickly made a move to acquire the 22-year-old this summer after tabling a €7 million offer to his parents club Udinese.

The Red and Black lads are in search of a centre back after their pursuit of Real Valladolid guardsman Mohammed Salisu deal collapsed.

Rennes coach Julien Stephan is reported to be keen on snapping up Opoku ahead of the next season.

Opoku, who has a contract with the Zebrette until 2022, appears to out of coach Luca Gotti’s plans hence a move to Rennes will represent another opportunity to continue his career in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

He joined Udinese from Tunisian giants Club Africain in 2018.
