Zinedine Zidane took full responsibility for Real Madrid's Copa del Rey loss to Alcoyano on Wednesday night. In typical fashion, the coach was calm and level-headed.
But the Frenchman's insistence that the result wasn't an embarrassment contrasts greatly with demands of one of his predecessors, Jose Mourinho.
"These things happen in a footballer's career," Zidane said on Wednesday.
However, the Portuguese coach was always direct when he spoke to the press.
Ahead of his first Copa del Rey match against Segunda B side Real Murcia in 2010, Mourinho made reference to the Alcorconazo, which had taken place the previous season under Manuel Pellegrini.
"I would put a cross on them," Mourinho said when asked what he would do if his players were to suffer such a loss.
"They would be dead to me."
After a goalless draw in Murcia, Real Madrid won 5-1 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
