Frosinone V Lazio – Preview: Aquile visit as Canarini aim to continue survival bid

Published on: 19 February 2016

Frosinone welcome Lazio to the Stadio Matusa on Sunday evening as they aim to prolong their impressive spell of form.

The Canarini registered their first away win in Serie A against Empoli last weekend as Daniel Ciofani netted a brace to move his side to within three points of safety.

Coach Roberto Stallone has oversaw a drastic upturn in form since January’s harrowing 5-1 home defeat to Napoli.

Frosinone have collected seven points from a possible fifteen in their last five outings, including an impressive 1-0 home success over a thriving Bologna side.

Talisman Ciofani has netted three times in his last four games and will prove instrumental in the Canarini’s survival bid.

Lazio, in the meantime, are enjoying a resurgence of their own and they will looking to build upon their emphatic 5-2 victory over Hellas Verona at the Stadio Olimpico last time out.

After failing to register a victory in two months, Stefano Pioli’s outfit have lost only once in Serie A since the turn of the year.

Draws, however, have been all too frequent for the Biancocelesti but Alessandro Matri’s strike against the Gialloblu last Thursday evening halted a two-month stretch where neither of the Aquile’s three traditional centre-forwards netted in the league.

Frosinone produced a valiant performance in the reverse fixture between these two sides in Rome in October but Pioli’s charges prevailed thanks to second-half goals from Keita Balde and Filip Djordjevic.

Adriano Russo is the only notable absentee for the hosts.

Lazio, meanwhile, will be without the services of Dusan Basta and Santiago Gentiletti. That means Wesley Hoedt and Abdoulaye Konko will likely continue in defence.

A sliver of positivity can be found from footage of Stefan de Vrij progressing in his recovery from knee surgery that has sidelined the Dutchman for the majority of the season.
