Serbian forward Aleksandr Mitrovic has broken Andre Ayew's record as the highest paid player in the English championship after inking a new deal with Fulham.

The striker was handed a new five-year deal with a £100,000 a week wage, surpassing Ghana's Andre Ayew's £80,000 a week wage while playing for Swansea City.

The Ghanaian forward and ex-Watford captain Troy Deeny were the player to have been paid the highest wage in the second tier of English football.

Mitrovic has been in inspiring form for Fulham leading the Cottagers in their quest for a return to the topfligh after netting 19 goals in 16 matches.

Andre Ayew left Swansea last season after the club's failure to return to the English topflight despite reaching the play-offs.

He now plies his trade in Qatar with Al Sadd SC.
