Gambia Football Federation declares 2019/2020 season 'null and void'

The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has declared the 2019/2020 football season "NULL and VOID" after consultations with the clubs.

This comes following the extension of the State of the Public by the country's President as a measure to prevent the widespread of the novel coronavirus.

The GFF executive committee on Thursday took the decision to forgo 2019/2020 season of the top-flight and all other leagues with no winners, no promotions and no relegations.

However, the committee agreed that the top two teams on the log at the time of the closure of the season will represent Gambia in the CAF inter-clubs competitions.

Therefore, Real de Banjul FC and Gambia Armed Forces FC will participate in the next editions of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.

About a week ago, the executive committee approval a financial package of US$160,000 to the support the football community amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Each of the 47 clubs in the West African country earned around US$2,910 as they look to mitigate the financial difficulties facing them due to the coronavirus crisis.
