Garcia: I do not feel insecure at Roma

Published on: 05 January 2016

Roma coach Rudi Garcia insists he is not feeling the pressure following a disappointing end to 2015, with his side registering just one victory in their last eight fixtures while sitting fifth in Serie A.

The Giallorossi start the new year against a tough Chievo on Wednesday at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi and the Frenchman is confident regarding his team’s preparation, stressing the importance of this domestic upcoming fixture.

“After the break I have witnessed a motivated group showing great physical and mental freshness,” he told reporters at the pre-match press conference.

“We are training with enthusiasm and joy, which for me is very important. We have to win the game tomorrow as we must try to continue on from the victory over Genoa.

“Chievo are a good team that we always struggle against. They are fighting and it is not by chance that their team has committed the most fouls in the league.”

Following the departure of winger Juan Iturbe to Premier League side Bournemouth, Garcia took the opportunity to wish the Argentinian the best and revealed he has asked the hierarchy to sign new players during the winter transfer window.

“We have to replace him,” he continued. “We have time because the market is still long and we will evaluate what to do.

“In defence we have many young players and I have asked for reinforcements [to assist them].”

Despite the hostile reception received from Roma fans at the end of last year, the 51-year-old was comfortable with his current standing at the club.

“I do not feel insecure or weakened,” he concluded. “I talk often with both the president and [Walter] Sabatini and I do not need them to show public support.

“I work for the good of Roma and I want to win tomorrow.”
