Gary Neville has hit back at Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, claiming the German manager is 'wrong' on his stance of the five substitutions proposals.
Earlier this week, ten Premier League clubs rejected the idea of having five substitutions per game for the third time since the start of the season, with Klopp campaigning to get more substitutions to combat injury worries.
The Reds manager maintained on Friday that he is not trying to gain an advantage by tapping into more of his squad during matches, but is trying to look after his players' fitness.
Klopp told his press conference on Friday: 'There are 10 clubs who voted against it, everybody knows who they are.
'It is not about competition or advantages, it was about player welfare and I am pretty sure only them have voted against it in the whole world if I am right.
'I don’t know how many other clubs have five subs. There must be a reason for it? For sure, all of them want to stay in the league.
'Here, pretty much the only league, even in this country as even the Championship I think is different, that doesn’t do it (have only three subs).'
But Neville has claimed that Klopp should look at himself regarding Liverpool's injury concerns as he is over-using his key players in matches where he can afford to rest them.
Neville tweeted on Friday: 'And he (Klopp) played his best players in moments he didn’t need to! And being honest. He’s my favourite manager in the world in terms of his football style and his personality. He’s amazing. But he has this wrong.'
The former Manchester United defender was referring to the time Klopp opted in play Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho in Liverpool's Champions League tie with FC Midtjylland last week despite the Reds already qualifying for the knockout stages.
Salah played the full 90 minutes in Denmark while Jota and Naby Keita were both injured for the following match against Fulham, with the Portuguese attacker being ruled out for around a month to six weeks.
Klopp has also slammed the Premier League at BT Sport for scheduling matches at 12.30pm on a Saturday after playing in Europe on the previous Wednesday.
The Reds travel to Crystal Palace this Saturday lunchtime having taken on Tottenham at Anfield on Wednesday this week.
Klopp's Liverpool have also failed to win their last three away matches in the top-flight after draws with Manchester City, Brighton and Fulham.
Liverpool have struggled with injuries this season as they aim to win back-to-back league titles after a 30-year Premier League drought.
Klopp has lost defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to long-term injuries while midfielder Diogo Jota is out until the New Year after a goal-laden start to his Anfield career.
James Milner, Xherdan Shaqiri, Kostas Tsimikas and Joel Matip are also currently out injured but Klopp's side are boosted by some welcome returns in midfield.
Thiago Alcantara is close to full fitness after he returned to the training field for an individual session on Thursday, while Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have returned to the substitutes' bench in recent weeks.
