Gasperini: Genoa and Roma both desperately need a victory

Published on: 19 December 2015

Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini believes he can turn results around at the club, starting with Sunday’s trip to face Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

The 57-year-old saw his team dumped out of the Coppa Italia following defeat against third-tier Alessandria on Tuesday night, and will be hoping for a positive reaction against the Giallorossi.

“These are two teams in need of a win,” Gasperini told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

“We’ve managed to lose points even though the team was playing well. Now it’s up to us, we are in an emergency situation and we have to start strong with the same determination we showed in previous games.

“We have problems, but there is no fear. This is a team that has given some great performances and the results have been out of our hands.

“These players have always held their heads high and I am convinced that we’ll do very well this season. And when we do, it’ll give us great satisfaction for managing to reverse such a disappointing situation.”
