Genoa v Udinese – Preview: Out of form duo meet in six pointer

Published on: 19 February 2016

Genoa and Udinese will meet in one of the four 15:00 pm CET kick-offs at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Last weekend Genoa could not stage a late fightback to deny Milan taking all three points at the San Siro, whilst Udinese succumbed to a Mattia Destro strike eleven minutes from time to lose at home to Bologna.

The reverse fixture of this produced a pretty unmemorable 1-1 draw at the Stadio Friuli with Antonio Di Natale opening the scoring for the hosts with his only goal of the season before Diego Perotti levelled things up with a penalty.

Both sides are in dreadful form and well below the expectations of their owners and fans.

Genoa are winless in five games, whilst Udinese have not won any of their last seven encounters.

The Grifone are hovering above the relegation zone in 16th place just three points above Frosinone with coach Gian Piero Gasperini labelling 2015-16 as a season to forget.

Zebrette coach Stefano Colantuono is under huge pressure due to his team’s slump in form as they are in 14th place two points above Genoa and another disappointing performance by the visitors could lead to his sacking.

The hosts will be looking to make home advantage as they have acquired more than 70% of their 25 point haul at the Luigi Ferraris but have never scored when top scorer Leonardo Pavoletti has not been on the pitch and he is injured until mid-March.

Udinese’s problem is even more drastic in front of goal. The team have only mustered 21 goals, the lowest tally with Verona, in the whole league, although they have strangely picked up more than half of their points on the road this season.

Christian Ansaldi will join Pavoletti on the sideline for Genoa, though Giovanni Pasquale and Maurizio Domizzi may return for Udinese.
