German-born duo handed Ghana debuts

German strikers Jeffrey Schlupp and Charles Takyi made their debuts for Ghana when they played in the friendly against Gabon on Tuesday.

The two players were second-half substitutes as the Black Stars were held by the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations hosts in Paris.

They played their first matches for Ghana since their maiden call-ups last week.

Schlupp was handed a shock debut call-up by Ghana after impressing for English Championship side Leicester City.

Ex-German youth international Charles Takyi was also handed his debut call after his nationality switch was approved by Fifa last month.

The call-up of Schlupp, who was born in Germany, came as a surprise for many but his performances for the Championship side convinced the Serbian coach Goran Stevanovic.

The striker has scored five goals for Leicester City in all competitions so far this season.

The two players face an anxious wait to see if they will be called for Africa Cup of Nations in January.
