German Bundesliga 2 club FC Kaiserslautern have announced the signing of Ghanaian winger  Aaron Opoku.

Opoku, 23, has joined the side from fellow Bundesliga II side Hamburg SV for the 2022-23 season.

“FC Kaiserslautern has strengthened its offensive with Aaron Opoku. The 23-year-old former junior international is moving from Hamburger SV to Betzenberg, a club statement read.

"We're happy that in Aaron Opoku we've been able to recruit a quick switch player and an excellent assist provider who can also be a goal threat. He can be used variably on offense and will make our game more unpredictable. We are glad that Aaron fully identifies with our path and our goals and wants to help with our development," says FCK Managing Director Thomas Hengen.

Aaron Opoku said: "Everything turned out the way it was supposed to and I'm very happy that I've arrived in Kaiserslautern. I can't wait to play for FCK at the Betzenberg and I will do my best to be successful with my team and for the club."

Born in Hamburg, he started playing football with the Hamburger Turnerschaft before moving to the youth academy at HSV at the age of twelve.

After he had gone through all the youth teams at Rothosen, he signed his first professional contract with HSV in the summer of 2018.

In order to gain more match practice, he was loaned out to FC Hansa Rostock, SSV Jahn Regensburg and VfL Osnabrück for the past three seasons.

In the current season he has played in three second division games for HSV and in the first round of the DFB Cup.

In his professional career so far he has gained experience in 25 second division games (1 goal, 2 assists) and 65 third division games (8 goals, 21 assists).

In the past season at VfL Osnabrück was the 1, 85 meter tall winger with 15 assists the third best assist provider in the 3rd division. Aaron Opoku made a total of seven appearances for the U19 and U20 national teams for the DFB.

At FC Kaiserslautern, Aaron Opoku will have the chance to play regularly and must work hard to help the club achieve its goals at the end of the football season.
