GFA ExCo Member Oduro Sarfo defends Otto Addo amidst poor Black Stars form

Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council Member Nana Sarfo Oduro has jumped to the defence of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, amidst criticism over the team's poor form.

Oduro praised Addo's contributions to the team, highlighting his achievement in qualifying the Black Stars for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Addo's team defeated Nigeria in a high-stakes playoff to secure a spot at the World Cup.

Although Addo has failed to qualify Ghana for the AFCON 2025, Oduro dismissed criticism surrounding the coach's performance.

"Otto Addo is doing two things. He is at the point of qualifying for the World Cup, though he could not qualify for the AFCON. So what shows he has not performed well?" Oduro asked on Asempa FM.

Oduro emphasised Addo's tactical acumen and resilience, comparing his performance to other renowned managers. "He is a top coach. He qualified us to the World Cup. Another 'Mourinho' could have lost," Oduro added.

While Addo's World Cup qualification earned praise, critics have pointed to his struggles in the AFCON qualifiers as a sign of inconsistency.

Ghana will play their next game in March against Chad and Madagascar in the World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing AFCON qualification campaign when they face Chad and Madagascar in March.
