The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced its intention to crack down on betting companies that offer odds on Ghana Premier League (GPL) matches without proper authorization.
GFA President Kurt Okraku revealed that the association's legal team will be contacting betting companies involved in this practice.
He emphasised that the GFA has not granted any betting company a license to take odds on GPL matches.
Okraku expressed concern about the negative impact of unauthorised betting on the league, citing match-fixing allegations that have surfaced in recent times.
He stated that it is unacceptable for betting companies to profit from Ghanaian football without proper authorisation.
"We have not licensed any betting company to take odds on our games. We are going to empower our legal department to confront this issue head-on. It is not okay for betting companies to feed on our football," he said.
"It is time to say no to such companies. We are open to doing it the legal way. We will invite companies who want to partner with us to speak to us."
The GFA's stance on this issue is a significant step towards protecting the integrity of the GPL and preventing future match-fixing scandals.
The new season of the league is set to begin on September 6.
