Ghana books semi final date with Zambia after Tunisia win

Ghana will now take on Zambia at the semi final stage of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations after beating Tunisia on Sunday.

The Black Stars left it late in the final first knockout round fixture to register a priceless 2-1 win over the 2004 champions in Franceville.

Captain John Mensah had edged Ghana into the lead on just ten minutes after heading home a flicked corner kick from Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu.

The Tunisians however fought back to equalize through Khalifa Sabeur in the 42nd minute.

As much as both sides tried during regulation time to outdo each other, the breakthrough only came after 101 minutes of football.

Andre Ayew who had be handed Ghana’s captain’s armband following the substitution of Sulley Muntari and then later Asamoah Gyan with John Mensah coming off earlier through injury, capitalized on a horrible mistake by goalkeeper Mathlouthi Aymen to slot home the eventual winner.

The Black Stars had to however fend off a late attacking surge of the Tunisians following some few minutes of rough play to secure their semi final berth.

Ghana who aim to win its first African title in 30-years will now face surprise package Zambia in Bata on Wednesday to fight for a place in Sunday’s grand finale.
