Ghana-born midfielder Roberto Massimo fell ill during a Bundesliga match over the weekend and had to be substituted.

Massimo, born in Accra to a Liberian mother and an Italian father, had to leave the field the first half of the VfB Stuttgart’s clash with Hertha Berlin which ended 2-2.

The 21-year-old went into the dressing room for the halftime break and never returned.

Stuttgart coach Pellegrino Matarazzo explained that the winger was unable to continue playing due to health problems.

“We didn't want to change him. But he has complained of dizziness and nausea. He also vomited at half-time and signalled that it couldn't go on," said Matarazzo.

Massimo represents Germany where he was raised by both immigrant parents.  He is a key member of their U21 team after graduating from U19.
