Ghana captain John Mensah will spend his Wednesday afternoon at the nation’s largest prison in Nsawam.

The 29-year-old defender will be organizing a football gala amongst inmates while getting the opportunity to interact with the convicts, wardens and other officials at the prison.

The move is aimed at giving hope to the convicts and to assure them all is not lost in life.

There will be a lot of prizes including cash rewards for participants who excel in the event while also identifying talents for possible infusion to the various clubs and the national teams.

Mensah’s initiative forms part of moves being made by social groups to improve the psychological reformation of convicts especially those who are due to be let out.

More and more attention are being given to prisoners in recent times as a way of reorienting their intergration with society.

Earlier this year, they were allowed to take part in the biometric voters registration exercise – a move that satisfies a constitutional requirement which will empower the convicts to actively take part in the forthcoming general elections on December 7.
