CK Akonnor includes Abedi Pele, Gyan in his crack Ghana best XI, excludes himself

Charles Kwablah Akonnor has named legends Abedi Pele and Asamoah Gyan among his exciting eleven players to have played for the Black Stars but excluded himself from the list despite his heroics for Ghana.

Akonnor shockingly snubbed star player Sulley Muntari from the list despite excelling while playing for senior national team.

The Black Stars coach mainly chose players he played with as well as the recent generation of players who took the Black Stars to greatness with World Cup appearances from 2006 to 2014.

The former Wolfsburg captain also included the charismatic former captain of the Black Stars Stephen Appiah in his team but there was surprise mentions Isaac Asare, Frimpong Manso and Robert Eshun.

The last three players were tough figures for the Black Stars but did not gain global prominence like the rest in the XI.

Some of the players to have made the list were his team mates and some current crop of players to have played in the last decade.

The former Wolfsburg captain named goalkeeper Richard Kingston as his number one to keep the post.

Frank Amankwah, Isaac Asare, Samuel Osei Kuffuor  and Frimpong Manso made it into the squad  as his best defenders for the Black Stars. .

In midfield, Akonnor named Robert Eshun, Michael Essien, Stephen Appiah and three-time African  best footballer Abedi Pele.

Ghana’s all-time leading scorer Gyan and the legendary Tony Yeboah completed the list for CK Akonnor’s best eleven squad.

The Black Stars coach per his squad will opt for the 4-3-3 formation.

Akonnor rose to through the ranks in the national team and succeeded Abedi Pele Ayew as Black Stars captain.
