Ghana coach Otto Addo 'delighted and exhausted' after sealing World Cup qualification with 'a bit of luck'

Ghana interim coach Otto Addo is "delighted and exhausted" to Ghana’s World Cup qualification over Nigeria after a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the play-off on Tuesday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Ghana booked one of the continent’s five tickets to the World Cup in Qatar which will be held later this year after qualifying with 1-1 aggregate scoreline.

The first leg at the Babayara Stadium in Kumasi saw the Super Eagles hold the Black Stars to a scoreless draw last Friday.

Reacting to his side’s exploits in the in Abuja on Tuesday evening, Addo expressed his delight for the historical achievement by the Black Stars.

However, Addo admitted Nigeria had the best of chances in Tuesday's match but Ghana, though played well, and also had 'a bit of luck' sail through in the end.

"I’m really delighted, exhausted, it was a tough match and we fought our way through," he told Multimedia reporters after the game on Tuesday.

"We had big big problems especially in the first half, and through some changes, the players gave their tactics very well and still they [the Nigerians] had some good chances.

"Our goalkeeper was there when we needed him and we had a little bit of luck also, because if you see the chances the Nigerians were better.

"I feel a bit pity for them but this is football, sometimes and we fought our way through." he assessed.

Arsenal star Thomas Partey scored the opening goal of the match as early as the 10th minute but his was cancelled twelve minutes later through a William Troost-Ekong penalty.

Ghana qualified the World Cup alongside Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon and Tunisia.
