Baba Rahman will return to Chelsea next week

Defender Baba Rahman will rejoin his Chelsea team-mates next week after cancelling his loan contract with German side, can exclusively reveal.

The left-back is currently on Christmas holidays in his native Ghana but will move straight to London to join Chelsea training at Cobham.

He will travel to England on New Year's day after he agreed to cancel his one season loan contract with Schalke before he left for the Christmas break.

The talented player has decided to return to the Premier League side because of lack of playing time with the Bundesliga side after recovering from injury.

His friends have told Ghana's leading soccer news outfit that Baba wants to return to Chelsea tough it out for a starting place after his recent frustrations in Germany.

The Ghana star was signed as an alternative to Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back after impressing for FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

He showed glimpses of promise when given an opportunity by Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink, but never really threatened to break into our starting eleven.

He subsequently left on-loan in hope of gaining more game-time and continuing his development. Baba started brightly at Schalke, then came catastrophe.

He ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in January 2017 while at the African Cup of Nations with Ghana. He’s only made five appearances since.

Schalke appear to have run out of patience with Baba, whether it be due to his fitness or decreased performance level following his injury.

It seems highly improbable that Baba will be an option for Maurizio Sarri, unless either Marcos Alonso or Emerson Palmieri leave this winter.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see him shipped out on-loan once again, but as with most of these things, we’ll just have to wait and see.
