Ghana defender Gideon Mensah set to leave Austrian giants Salzburg this summer

Ghana defender Gideon Mensah is on the verge of leaving Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg permanently in the summer transfer window, sources close to the player have revealed.

The Black Stars left-back is expected to return to his parent club after a successful loan spell in Portugal with Vitoria Guimaraes, information exclusively revealed by Ghanasoccernet.com last month.

However, following the departure of coach Jesse Marsch to RB Liepzig, the 23-year-old is expected to make a move to a new club as his future at the Austrian remains uncertain.

Mensah has spent most of his time on loan since joining the first team of Salzburg, having played for Sturm Graz, Zulte Waregem and Vitoria SC.

The Ghana international has been chasing first team football at the Austrian side and the lack of playing opportunities at Salzburg will quickly force his hand.

That is because his position in the Ghana team will be threatened if he continue to warm the bench at the Austrian giants.

According to information gathered by GHANASoccernet.com, several clubs in France are chasing the signature of the left-back.

His current deal with Red Bull Salzburg expires in May 2024.
