Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah made a return from a long injury lay-off to sit on the Evian Thonon Gaillard bench in their French Ligue 1 2-0 defeat at Ajaccio on Saturday.

The 22-year-old Black Stars centre-half won the battle over a nagging thigh injury that ruled him out since returning from the 2012 Nations Cup.

He played full time in the Evian II 3-3 drawn game against Louhans-Cuiseaux a fortnight ago.

The former Granada FC man was named in Pablo Correa's 18-man squad for the trip to Ajaccio but was an unused substitute in the game.

Mensah has been left out of James Kwesi Appiah's 24-man squad for the double-header against Malawi and Liberia this month.
