Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu reacts to ‘unforgettable’ Champions League debut against Barcelona

AS Monaco defender Mohammed Salisu has shared his excitement after marking his UEFA Champions League debut against Barcelona.

The Black Stars defender lasted the entire duration as his outfit secured a 2-1 win over the Spanish giants on Thursday night.

Salisu delivered an outstanding performance at the Stade Louis II, contributing four clearances, two interceptions, two tackles, and a commanding presence in aerial duels. The tough-Ghanaian defender also came close to scoring, capping off a remarkable debut in the UEFA elite competition.

After the game, the Ghanaian international took to social media to express his joy following a remarkable debut for the Ligue giants.

“An unforgettable Champions League debut in front of our incredible fans. The atmosphere was electric, driving us on to secure the win. Let’s carry this momentum into the weekend” he wrote on Instagram.

Barcelona suffered an early setback in the game after defender, Eric Garcia received the marching orders in the 10th-minute mark.

The home team took advantage of the early red card, opening the scoring in the 16th-minute through Maghnes Akliouche. The Spanish outfit responded with an equalizer through teenage sensation Lamine Yamal before the halftime break.

In the 71st-minute, Nigerian striker George Ilenikhena scored the decisive goal to hand Monaco victory in the thrilling clash.

Salisu, who missed most part of last season through injury is determined to make a mark this season for the Ligue 1 club.

The 25-year-old defender has made four appearances across competitions for Monaco this season.
