Qatar-based Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila has hailed the comeback of Coach Kwasi Appiah as the Black Stars coach following the Ghana FA's decision to appoint him as Grant's successor.
Appiah emerged the overwhelming favourite among three shortlisted coaches including former Bayern Munich and France defender Willy Sagnol and current Cameroon boss Hugo Broos, who took a swift u-turn to deny links to the job to save himself with the Indomitable Lions.
Appiah' return will be the second time he will be leading the Black Stars after he parted ways with the Ghana FA after Ghana's sorry performance at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
And the Al Gharafa defender says the return of Kwasi Appiah, the only Ghanaian coach to have qualified Ghana for the World Cup, is the best for Ghana.
"He is a good coach and it's good he is back. His second coming will offer him ample time to the good job he did by qualifying Ghana for the 2014 World Cup and build a string side for the 2019 AFCON," Rashid told Ghanasoccernet.com
Rashid who played under Kwasi Appiah at the 2014 World Cup and was a member of the Black Stars side that mauled Egypt 6-1 in the qualifier to the World Cup in Kumasi believes Kwasi has a fair idea of the team already and will do a wonderful job on his return.
"I played under him in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers and at the World Cup. He fielded me against Holland in the pre-World Cup friendly and that was my best game.
"I am convinced the FA knows what he did at that time and what he can do now. I believe he will do a wonderful job. I wish him well," he noted.
Kwasi Appiah, until his appointment on Tuesday as the Ghana coach was the head coach of Sudanese side Al Khartoum FC.
