Schalke 04 defender Hans Adu Sarpei believes his side's Bundesliga campaign will improve after victory in the German Cup last Tuesday.

The Royal Blues and face Bayer Leverkusen at the Veltins-Arena, Gelsenkirchen and are under pressure to pull away from the relegation zone.

Schalke, Uefa Champions League campaigners, have been disappointing this term in sixteenth-place with a paltry six points from nine games.

But a slim 0-1 win at FSV Frankfurt in the DFB Pokal is expected to spark their resurgence in the top flight.

Sarpei, who joined Die Königsblauen this term from Wolfsburg, says there is no need to panic.

"Many new players joined the club after pre-season. We did not have enough time to gel, so we had to try out a lot in the Bundesliga. That can be seen in the results," Sarpei was quoted as saying on the Leverkusen website.

"However, the trend is positive. In the Champions League we have shown our qualities. But we must keep fighting.

"Things started pretty well for me personally at Schalke. I got a lot of playing time, but the team’s results weren‘t good. At the moment the coach has decided to play differently, so I have to work hard in training to get another chance. I obviously hope to play again soon."
