Ghana FA boss insists on Essien meeting to resolve stand-off

Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi insists they will line up a meeting with Michael Essien in a bid to address any concerns hindering his return to the national team.

The Chelsea ace has been labeled in certain quarters as unpatriotic after failing to state a firm date of his return to the Black Stars.

Essien has not played for the Black Stars since January 2010 and with crucial upcoming match against Congo fans are clamoring for his return.

Others have called for him to be permanently excluded from the squad but the GFA boss insists they must listen to his greivances.

"We have to sit down with him and listen to what he has to say," Nyantekyie told Asempa FM.

"We need to find out what his problems are. Some people have said we should forget about him but for me that is too early. He is human and may have issues so I don't want to judge him now.   "We are playing in England and he plays there so it will be a good time to sit down and talk to him. It is too early to suggest he does not want to play for Ghana again.

“He has played for Ghana since he was a teenager and let us not forget he picked up two serious injuries in a Ghana shirt.   "I am eager to hear from himself because what I know I have read from the Internet and newspapers but as things stand now I am confident he will play for the country again.”

Essien suffered two serious injuries while playing for the Black Stars.
