The Ghana FA remain adamant Globacom are still the headline sponsors of the Premier League despite their contract expiration and failure to honour financial obligations.

The Nigerian owned telecommunication firm are owing over $2m in arrears for their initial five-year sponsorship agreement with the Ghana FA.

Glo have however failed to honour their financial obligations of the agreement much to the frustration of the Premier League clubs.

The new Ghanaian Premier League season kicked off on Sunday with minimal mentions of Glo as the title sponsors as their five-year agreement with the Ghana FA has expired and awaiting renewal.

But the GFA’s spokesman Ibrahim Sannie-Daara insists the mobile telecommunication firm remain the title sponsors of the Ghanaian top flight.

“I insist it [Ghanaian top flight] is still the Glo Premier League,” he told Accra-based Radio Gold.

“An agreement was reached before the start of the season with an agreement to pay outstanding amount due the clubs per a schedule,”

“The executives have not yet met to declare the league is without a sponsor so we cannot therefore conclude that the league is sponsor-less.”

“We struggled but this is just our first match and I am sure we will pick up quickly,”

“The season before last season we lost a lot of players so this is nothing new to us.”
