Ghana FA must stop the cover up and obfuscation to fully explain Muntari World Cup camp AWOL

Published on: 04 June 2010

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is facing further embarrassment over Sulley Muntari’s absence from the Ghana World Cup team after it blatantly denied the truth that the Inter Milan midfielder had been missing from camp without permission.

This is the latest of the several cover-ups in recent times after the GFA was shocked to find out that Ghanasoccernet exposed the rot and trouble Muntari is fomenting in camp.

Typical of the GFA’s media strategy, one line on its website to repair the damage is enough to get a section of the media to toe the official line but beneath the facade is an unmistakable anxiety.

On Muntari’s stubborn absence from the Ghana camp,  it was enough to throw a line that he had undergone an MRI scan to cover up and turn attention to his injury.

It is a fact that Muntari absconded and left to London on his own while the team headed to Milton Keynes.

Kickoffghana, who have a reporter in the Ghana camp in Milton Keynes, confirmed Muntari’s stubborn.

“But it all came after he had insisted on seeing a doctor on his own in London on Thursday moments after the touched down from Amsterdam on Wednesday,” exposing the fact that the Inter Milan player was creating trouble.

“He therefore did not travel with the rest of the squad to Milton Keynes but was soon ordered back to the base,” the reporter in the Ghana camp added.

The GFA’s actions is clear for all to see that in the statement on its website it did not say whether Muntari insisted on seeing a doctor alone and actually absconded before he was ordered back to base.

The GFA also did not confirm or deny whether the Inter ’star’ demanded a hotel room for himself in Rotterdam and when he was turned down he paid for one.

The Ghana football media has the responsibility of reporting the truth especially when there is potential that an action could disrupt preparations towards the  World Cup.

The GFA has recently been on the back foot over recent media reports concerning the Ghana World Cup team and its so quick to go to its website with a slanted version.

If Laryea Kingst0n did not attempt to attack coach Milovan Rajevac then what happened? The GFA must explain.

Does the Kevin Prince Boateng passport issue ring a bell? They said they had submitted all documents when the BBC reported that they had not. But for that BBC report, Baoteng will still be waiting and will not be part of Ghana’s World Cup team.
